After listening to the noise from DC, politicians, and prophets of doom, I penned the following thoughts!
We Don’t Scare Easily—We Are Baby Boomers!
1. We had atomic bomb drills in elementary school and hid under our desks.
2. We had friends crippled from polio.
3. Our parents had a closet filled with foodstuffs and water for the nuclear war.
4. We read Silent Spring by Rachel Carson in High School.
5. Some of us watched our dads suffer from physical and mental wounds from WW II.
6. We watched the Bay of Pigs and subsequent consequences.
7. We watched as the Civil Rights movement took shape.
8. We watched as the establishment attacked peaceful civil rights demonstrations in the south.
9. We experienced the assassination of President Kennedy, of a civil rights icon MLK, and Senator Robert Kennedy.
10. We watched riots erupt over race and economics.
11. We watched riots erupt over the Vietnam war.
12. We lost friends in the Vietnam war.
13. We lost our innocence at Woodstock.
14. Some of our friends became enemies during the Peace movement.
15. We watched the Green Bay Packers win the first Super Bowl.
16. We watched people burn bras, draft cards, cars, buildings, and humans.
17. Some of us became Jesus Freaks and carried large Bibles and were scorned by churches.
18. Some of us were shot at, beaten, spit at, cursed, all for being in the military.
19. We watched a man walk on the moon.
20. We were told by some that the world could not last another decade.
21. We drank from a garden hose.
22. We are baby boomers and we don’t scare easily!
