With my Counselor’s Hat On
Elon Musk tweeted on March 14, regarding Twitter: The intent is for this site to be fair & impartial, favoring no party, seeking only the least wrong truth. My mind twisted and rolled like an Olympic gymnast trying to process this information. What is being stated? I know that truth is objective; however, this must be subjective truth, what one believes to be true vs. fact. My mind is still in a bit of a dizzy state as if I had just finished a study of Kohlberg’s Six Stages of Moral Development.
Our society seems to have an unhealthy desire to place everything on a spectrum. We judge movies with an assignment of bags of popcorn icons; we give stars to businesses and use social media such as Yelp to offer our approval, disapproval, and everything in between. It is hard for our society to say-This is true. In recent years, we even find very educated people mouthing absurdities by mixing subjective truth and objective truth by refusing to define what a woman is or proclaiming that a man can give birth. This has led to female athletes being destined to compete not only against talent but also against biology. It has led to a desire to ignore gender dysphoria, instead deeming it a valid expression of youth already in a hormonal and societal shift.
Life is not a snapshot but a much longer video. As children grow and express various desires or concerns, we should not rush to take a snapshot of their feelings without considering the process that is called puberty. Why does society suddenly shift to non-spectrum thought when it comes to minors who are obviously on a spectrum of moral, biological, and cultural growth? It is concerning to hear our Assistant Secretary of Health affirm medical intervention for minors with gender dysphoria. No longer is it referred to as dysphoria, but rather it becomes gender-affirming care. To even have our President state that withholding gender-affirming care (including medical intervention) is close to sinful is extremely troubling. To take a snapshot of a minor’s life and mutilate their body through chemicals, surgery, and other medical procedures based on a snapshot is irresponsible. One has taken a snapshot and, through surgery, destined it as a major theme of the person’s life or video. To further complicate the issue, if that child as an adult decides this was wrong, they are faced with horrific medical decisions and will be ostracized by the community that said you must discover your own truth.
From my previous blog September 23, 2020:
I am not addressing the issue of transgender adults but the issue of Gender dysphoria in children. Gender dysphoria is not about same-sex attraction. Gender dysphoria is not about gender non-conformity, which may be expressed by behaviors not stereotypical of the expressed biological gender. Gender dysphoria is a strong feeling of incongruence with one’s biological gender
Gender fluidity during childhood may be a part of natural development: Most of these issues dissipate during and/or after puberty. It is alarming when I see stories of parents wanting to medically intervene with children before puberty, whether through pharmaceuticals or surgery. Children are filled with fantasies and aspirations that are a part of childhood. To dictate to a child that he/she must be a cowboy, fireman, astronaut, etc., because of a prolonged-expression and desire to be the same would be foolish. It is just as foolish, and in this case harmful, to accept a child’s expression of gender identity that is incongruent with their biological expression of gender. I have read stories of children as young as 3, 10, and 11 being subjected to drugs to suppress the natural biological process of gender expression. In my opinion, this is abusive.
My concern is that parents are quick to parade their “transgender” children to authenticate their progressive credentials. This is the height of narcissism. My prayer and hope is that the recent explosion of transgender issues in children will be exposed as abuse and that calmer minds will prevail. To see transgender around every corner not only harms the children, but also minimizes the true struggles of transgender adults. Let children grow up, be supportive, but don’t intervene medically. https://bit.ly/genderminors
There may be a huge difference between objective truth and what one believes to be true. I can believe I am on the right road heading toward my destination, and my wife insists I am lost. My explanation will be that I am not lost; I just wanted you to see the houses in this neighborhood or some other clandestine maneuver to soothe my male ego. Playing with objective truth to protect my gender’s ego is one thing, but betting that a snapshot in a child’s life is their life’s forever movie is another. I understand what is being said by seeking the least wrong truth; however, when it comes to minors and their life story, let’s wait for the most right truth to be expressed in adulthood, or even the least wrong truth will do if it means waiting until adulthood. So that is my take, what do you think?
