The Parable of the Blue Car and Cancel Culture

I have observed with many of you that our beloved country is becoming more and more intolerant. Progressive, yes, but very intolerant of a non-progressive idea, belief, religion, or anything that is an insult to the acceptable progressive view. I realize we have come a long way, baby, but in the wrong direction. Progressive ideas, no matter how weird or outlandish (and you can put your own list here), are accepted as gospel, and well, the Gospel is rejected.

Fred considered himself a tolerant person.  He understood that everyone has a right to choose the color of the car that they desire.  Not everyone will insist on a blue car.  Fred felt that he could only drive a blue car, and his community believed that any car except for blue was just not proper.  The norm in his society was blue cars. Everyone drove blue cars.  Fred’s community did not believe they had to take all other cars off the road; they simply believed that blue cars were proper, traditional, and in line with the beliefs and values of their community. They were tolerant and happy to share the road and parking lots with all other colors of cars.

Then one day at a Christmas office party, Fred was asked why he always drove blue cars.  When Fred explained that it was a firmly held tradition in his community and really was the only color of car for him, he was immediately attacked for being intolerant! You are so intolerant, Fred!  Does everyone in your community believe that blue cars are the only color cars they should drive?  Yes, replied Fred.  A heated discussion followed, and soon Fred stood alone.

The next day there were posters in the hall declaring the intolerance of blue car owners.  Fred had seen the sign in the parking lot that said:  No Blue Cars!  The suggestion was made that due to the blue car owner’s intolerance, they should not be employed at the company.  They should recant their blue car tradition or find another place to work.  The world would be better off without the blue car people!  They are narrow-minded and exceedingly intolerant!

Fred quit his job because of the constant harassment.  He now works for a man who owns a blue car.  Fred still believes everyone should be able to drive the color of car they desire, but he must follow his tradition of buying only blue cars.  Fred’s intolerance had to be punished, and he lives with the loss of a good job; however, he deserved to lose his job!  He only believed in blue cars!

If one believes in traditional marriage between a man and a woman, he is a homophobe.

If one believes people should enter the country legally and not rush our border,  he is a xenophobe.

If one believes our nation is the greatest nation on earth, you are at best naïve and, worse, a white supremacist. 

If one believes that Jesus is the only way a man can get to heaven, you are a bigoted, narrow-minded jerk.

If you believe abortion is wrong, you are controlling women.

If you believe that a person who can work should work, you are heartless like the Apostle Paul who said you don’t eat if you don’t work.

If you believe that burning an American flag is a disgrace, you are a worshipper of America and not God.

If you are a white male over 50, you are most likely a white supremacist, even though you don’t know it.

If you believe we should be united under one flag and one national creed, In God We Trust, you are more than naïve.

If you believe those police officers are human, parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters, and spouses, you have lost touch with reality.

I, for one, try to ignore the ignorance of the progressives, but when I must, I will debate them.

I would not die on the hill of the progressive whose purpose is to wreak havoc in society. I am willing to die only on a few hills—the hill of my country, my family, my Lord, and my neighbor.  I would also die for my right to own a blue car.
