The Olympics bring the best of athletes together in a spirit of unity and competition. The athletes exhibit great pride in their skills and their country. It is a spectacular world event that reminds us that we inhabit this earth with billions of others who share many of the same ideals, hopes, and dreams as we do. The Olympic Rings symbol is the visual ambassador of Olympism for billions of people. The rings are equal and united and create a symbol of mutual respect.
These five rings represent the five parts of the world now won over to the cause of olympism and ready to accept its fecund rivalries. What is more, the six colors thus combined reproduce those of all nations without exception. Pierre de Coubertin, Founder of the Olympic Movement
Given this rich history and the values the Olympics stand for, it’s puzzling why the Olympic committee would risk alienating a significant portion of its global audience. Their decision to stage a controversial reenactment of The Lord’s Table, potentially upsetting Christians worldwide, seems at odds with the Olympic spirit. Jesus prayed at the crucifixion, Father, forgive them for they know not what they do. In this case, it seems they knew exactly what they were doing. They chose drag queens to represent Jesus and the apostles. They intentionally posed as in Leonardo da Vinci’s great painting of The Last Supper.
So what should we do?
- Pray for the Olympic committee.
- Pray for the athletes, sponsors, and many others who had nothing to do with this Blasphemy.
- Don’t boycott the Olympics; this is not the athletes but the committee.
- Email the committee and ask them why.
- Send them a postcard or letter to:
- Maison Olympique
1007 Lausanne
Switzerland
- Maison Olympique
- Send them a postcard or letter to:
- Pray for revival in France.
- Post your disgust with the opening Blasphemy on social media. Let them hear us.
With all this said, we live in an increasingly evil world that is moving toward the culmination of all things in God’s time and His way. Our faith and hope is in Christ. God is big enough to defend Himself, but we, as His servants, must speak the truth in love with passion and conviction.
May God bless you this day.
