IF ONLY
One phrase will haunt the heart of some
With a saw-toothed edge, it rips the soul
When there is loss and loss does come
Exaggerates guilt to sevenfold.
A useless phrase when loss has come,
A divorce, a death, a job now gone.
Its source is yesterday and not today
It stifles hope that, if only phrase.
It only pines for yesterday.
But Jesus reaches out today,
And can make, if only, a tool of grace.
If only, to Him you face.
